Moving TRANSFER
Data Files
TRANSFER data files follow particular rules that allow TRANSFER software to use the
files. The rules must be maintained when the files are moved. The rules for the files
and the steps required to move the files are described in the following paragraphs.
These rules and steps use the term “name” to refer to a fully qualified file specification
that includes the volume, subvolume, and file name ($
vol.subvol.filename
).
The rules that govern TRANSFER data files are:
The two files of the name directory—Name (NAME) and Directory Services Data
(DSDATA)—must reside on the same subvolume so that the Name server
(NAMESRV program) can find them. The actual file names for these files must not
be changed.
The names of the Base TRANSFER component data files except the Name
Directory files are stored in the configuration directory so that the names are
available to TRANSFER servers. These files that you might want to move include:
Data Base Sample (DBSAMPL)
Distribution List (DISTLIST)
External Objects (EXTOBJS)
Folder (FOLDER)
Interest Group (INTGROUP)
Inverted Attachment (IATTACH)
Inverted Folder (IFOLDER)
Item Data (ITEMDATA)
Item Descriptor (ITEMDESC)
Net (NET)
Queue Sample (QSAMPL)
Ready (READY)
Recipient (RECIP)
Session (SESSION)
Statistics (DEPSTAT)
Time (TIME)
Profile (PROFILE)
The Remote Open Control (ROPENCTL) file must be on the same volume and
subvolume as the Profile (PROFILE) file.
These file-moving procedures enable you to move the External Objects (EXTOBJS)
file but not the GUARDIAN 90 files that are attached as external objects.
The Directory Services Data, Interest Group, Inverted Folder, Name, Net, Ready,
and Time files each have an alternate key file.
The names of the data files for some TRANSFER components, such as Queue
Manager, are defined to servers in ASSIGN messages in the PATHWAY
configuration. This configuration is generated by the definition programs.
