The TRANSFER delivery system is a high-level software product that provides
reliable delivery of information to people, processes, and devices. TRANSFER can be
run on a single system or across a network of systems. In a network, communication
through TRANSFER does not depend on the immediate availability of the system
where information is being sent. In addition, a particular recipient need not be
available at the time information is transmitted.
TRANSFER is reliable, flexible, and convenient. Delivery of information is assured;
each recipient receives the information and receives it only once. If the information
cannot be delivered within a timeframe specified for delivery, the sender is informed
that delivery could not be completed. The content and format of the information that
is transmitted is strictly up to the sender; TRANSFER is concerned only with the
transmittal of the information. The sender can also specify when the information is to
be delivered.
The TRANSFER unit-of-work (UOW) interface allows you to design your applications
in such a way that various applications can communicate easily and efficiently.
TRANSFER does the actual work of packaging pieces of information into deliverable
units, monitoring the network for availability to receive the information, and routing
information to multiple recipients.
This manual deals with the installation and management of a TRANSFER system and
is written for the TRANSFER system manager, who is responsible for installing
TRANSFER and for monitoring and controlling TRANSFER when it is running.
