Information for Manual
Number 13198
The parent manual, Part Number 13198, released July, 1991, replaces the TRANSFER
Installation and Management Guide (Preliminary) (Part Number 82492), which was
released in October 1986, and the TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide,
Update 1 (Part Number 22855), which was released in March 1989. Here is a summary
of the changes this manual contains:
The name of the Preface has been changed to “About This Manual.”
Section 1, “Introduction,” has been expanded to discuss TRANSFER concepts,
such as items and packages; the TRANSFER database and depots; and the ADMIN
and TMANAGER programs for managing your TRANSFER system. It also
introduces interest groups—correspondents who share a group depot with group
profiles, group folders, and group distribution lists.
Section 2, “The TRANSFER Environment,” reflects changes in TRANSFER clients:
TRANSFER/MAIL (TMAIL) has been replaced by PS MAIL 6530 for Tandem
6530 terminals, PS MAIL 3270 for IBM 3270 terminals, and PS MAIL TTY for
conversational terminals.
The TRANSFER X400 gateway application allows users to exchange packages
with users on other host systems that support the international X.400
messaging-system standards.
Queue Manager, an optional queueing facility that lets requesters add an entry
in a queue and retrieve an entry from a queue for processing, has been
released as a separate product and is now documented in The Queue Manager
Manual.
Other applications developed by and available from third-party software
vendors—such as Courier, an application that provides electronic-forms
processing—are now available.
FAXLINK is an obsolete product.
WPLINK (WORDLINK) is an obsolete product.
Section 3, “The X400 Gateway,” describes the TRANSFER X400 gateway—X400
messages, management domains, the X400 gateway node, and X400 names.
Section 5, “Defining a TRANSFER System,” adds information on TRANSFER X400
domain names and national language support.
