System Management A system manager at each node in a network oversees the TRANSFER delivery system
by performing these tasks:
Installing TRANSFER
Monitoring activity within the TRANSFER environment
Setting up rules for the use of TRANSFER
Coordinating the use of TRANSFER with system managers at other nodes
Solving problems that occur while TRANSFER is running
This manual is organized to help you install and manage TRANSFER. Section 2
describes the TRANSFER environment and introduces the components of TRANSFER.
Section 3 discusses the TRANSFER X400 gateway that allows TRANSFER
correspondents to exchange messages with users of different message systems that are
based on international X.400 standards.
Sections 4 through 7 describe the steps required for installing a TRANSFER delivery
system customized for your site. Section 8 describes the steps for redefining your
TRANSFER system.
Sections 9 and 10 explain administering your system: Section 9 discusses the ADMIN
screens used for system control and for depot storage statistics; Section 10 explains
TMANAGER. TMANAGER is a TRANSFER client, like ADMIN, that can be run as a
standalone program or accessed through another application (such as ADMIN).
Section 11 discusses overall system management. Section 12 offers guidelines on
troubleshooting for the TRANSFER system manager.
The appendixes contain supplemental information to help you install and manage
your TRANSFER delivery system.
Appendix A contains the complete TRANSFER defaults files.
Appendix B includes TRANSFER error messages, along with the causes, effects,
and recovery procedures relevant to each.
Appendix C lists the files residing in the user-DSV (distribution subvolume) for
each system component.
Appendix D describes programs to help you specify the character set and
character map for your national language and gives examples of the softdocs for
initializing ADMIN and PS MAIL 6530 in German.
Appendix E provides a system installation example.

boldface the first time that they occur in the text of the manual.
