Installation Concepts To install and run TRANSFER, you need user-DSV subvolumes containing files
Tandem provides and a configuration subvolume:
A user-DSV is a subvolume on which resides a copy of the Tandem distribution
subvolume with software for TRANSFER and clients supplied by Tandem. These
are described in Section 4 and Appendix C.
A configuration subvolume is the subvolume on which resides the TRANSFER
system description you provide and the files generated to control the system.
Installation procedures occur in distinct phases. The system manager directs each of
these phases. The installation phases are:
Definition Provides the description of the TRANSFER system. This phase
generates files used in the initialization, configuration, start, and
stop phases. Definition is done once for the system.
Initialization Provides for initializing data files required for the TRANSFER
system. This phase uses files generated in the definition phase.
Initialization is done once for the system.
Configuration Transforms the definition of the TRANSFER system into a cold-
loaded PATHWAY system. This phase uses files generated by
the definition or redefinition phases. Configuration must be
done after the initial definition and after any redefinition.
Start Cool starts the TRANSFER PATHWAY system and PATHWAY
objects. This phase uses files generated in the definition,
redefinition, and configuration phases.
Stop Stops the TRANSFER PATHWAY system. This phase uses files
generated in the definition, redefinition, and configuration
phases.
Redefinition Modifies the existing definition and generates a new definition.
Redefinition generates files used for the configuration, start, and
stop phases—all the same files as those generated by the
definition phase except for initialization.
