TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide

2 The TRANSFER Environment
068837, Update 1 to 013198 Tandem Computers Incorporated 2–1
Overview The TRANSFER delivery system operates in an environment that includes the
GUARDIAN 90 operating system, the PATHWAY transaction processing system,
and the Transaction Monitoring Facility (TMF). If your system is part of an EXPAND
network, information can be transported to and from the various nodes in the
network. A TRANSFER system must be installed at each node where information is to
be sent or received.
The components of the TRANSFER system include:
Base TRANSFER, the set of processes that control communications within the
TRANSFER environment and data files that contain information TRANSFER
needs to service requests for package delivery. Base TRANSFER is the only
component required for a TRANSFER delivery system.
Along with the set of processes that build, maintain, and route packages of data
for requesting applications, the TRANSFER product includes the administrative
client, ADMIN, and the system management client, TMANAGER, which are part
of Base TRANSFER. When you install Base TRANSFER, these two programs are
automatically configured:
ADMIN, an application that allows administrators to perform administrative
tasks for correspondents, interest groups, distribution lists, folders, and the
TRANSFER system. ADMIN can be accessed either by a user-developed
SCREEN COBOL module that interfaces with PS MAIL 6530 through the
EXTRAS function or run as a standalone PATHWAY program. The
TRANSFER Programming Guide explains the EXTRAS interface procedure.
TMANAGER, an application that allows system managers to manage a
TRANSFER delivery system. TMANAGER can be accessed through ADMIN
or run as a standalone PATHWAY program.
Additionally, a TRANSFER system can include:
Other applications available from Tandem
PS MAIL applications that let users exchange messages electronically:
PS MAIL 6530, a client that enables users to exchange mail electronically
in full-screen mode on Tandem 6530 terminals, as well as on other
workstations that are running a Tandem 6530 terminal emulator
PS MAIL 3270, a client that enables users to exchange mail electronically
in full-screen mode on the IBM 3270 family of terminals
PS MAIL TTY, a client that enables users to exchange mail electronically
on conversational terminals
The X400 gateway, an application that allows users to exchange packages with
users on other host systems that support the international X.400 messaging-
system standards
