TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide

New and Changed Information
iv 068837, Update 1 to 013198 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Section 6, “System Installation Procedures,” explains installing the new
TRANSFER components described in Section 2. It also discusses:
The SPREP Program, the TRANSFER statistics program that initializes
statistics when depot statistics collection is first configured on a system or
when the statistics configuration changes
Initializing new special depots—the model group depot, the PUBLIC depot,
and the X400 depot
Configuring TRANSFER into an existing PATHWAY system
Section 7, “Customizing a TRANSFER System,” adds directions for customizing
X400 gateway servers.
Section 9, “Using ADMIN to Administer TRANSFER,” describes the ADMIN
functions that allow you, as system manager, to control the TRANSFER
environment. With the new DEPOT STATISTICS CONFIGURATION screen, you
can determine how and when depot storage statistics are collected and saved. The
X400 GATEWAY ATTRIBUTES screen displays the X400 name attributes for your
node.
Section 10, “TMANAGER,” discusses the TMANAGER application that provides
monitoring, log control, and tracing capabilities at the local node; the SMSERV
database server for system management functions; and the TSAMPLE server,
which does asynchronous processing for TMANAGER, including queue and file
sampling and active alarm notification.
Section 11, “Managing a TRANSFER Network,” adds specific information about
such management concerns as idle sessions, X400 domains, and user-supplied
modules for ADMIN and TMANAGER.
Section 12, “Troubleshooting,” is a new section that helps you deal with such
problems as:
What to do when mail is not delivered
What to do about poor interactive performance
Partitioning TRANSFER database files, including the Session file
Understanding and using the log files
Isolating a node from the network
The complete define files for the components in a TRANSFER system have been
moved to Appendix A.
Appendix B now includes the following error messages:
Definition program messages
Server startup messages
TRANSFER server messages
TCHECK messages
