System Configuration
Requirements
When setting up TRANSFER on your system, you must consider several system
configuration requirements, which are discussed in the following subsections.
System Generation Requirements
The system generation program (SYSGEN) establishes the hardware and software
configuration for your system. Logical devices (such as disks, terminals, and
communication lines) and the system software associated with each processor must be
described in SYSGEN. You must define a unique system name and a system number
for your system even if TRANSFER is running on a single system.
Caution Once TRANSFER is running in a production environment, do not change your system name or system
number; they are an integral part of the IDs that identify the objects defined at your node. If a system
name or number must be changed at a node where TRANSFER is running, the TRANSFER database on
that node must be reinitialized. Existing data cannot be preserved.
TMF is required on every node where TRANSFER is running to ensure consistency of
the TRANSFER database. SYSGEN has no special requirements for TMF.
EXPAND is required if TRANSFER is running in a network. Any system on which
TRANSFER is to run must have a network name and number defined in the system
configuration even if EXPAND is not installed. The system number assigned to your
node in the system configuration is part of each ID that is assigned to a depot or to an
item created at your node. Because the system number is included in the IDs, depots
and items are uniquely identified throughout the network.
If you are running TRANSFER in a network environment, the GUARDIAN 90 ID
under which the processes are running must have remote access to all other nodes.
Without remote passwords for the GUARDIAN 90 ID that owns the TRANSFER
system, two or more TRANSFER systems cannot communicate across a network.
Refer to the System Manager’s Guide for detailed information on configuring your
system.
X400 Gateway Requirements
If you are using the TRANSFER X400 gateway, the Queue Manager is automatically
installed when you configure the gateway. The Queue Manager Manual discusses the
Queue Manager.
