Steps to Install the
System
To install Base TRANSFER and PS MAIL 6530, the system manager follows these
steps.
Step 1: Get the DSV First, the system manager obtains the user distribution subvolumes (user-DSVs) from
the installation subvolumes (ISVs), volume.ZTRANSFR and volume.ZMAIL653, and
copies them to $DISKZ.TRANDSV. The products to be installed are:
Base TRANSFER, with product number T9110 and prefix TR. Base TRANSFER is
the only required component of a TRANSFER system.
PS MAIL 6530, with product number T9131 and prefix ML. This product comes
with Base TRANSFER and although it is not required, configuring it allows the
system manager to verify that the system installation was successful by sending
messages between correspondents.
Step 2: Establish
Subvolumes for
TRANSFER Software
Next, the system manager chooses an empty subvolume to be the configuration
subvolume for the TRANSFER system. In addition, two other empty subvolumes are
established, one to hold the TRANSFER database files and the other to hold the
TRANSFER name directory files. The system manager names these subvolumes:
$DISKA.TRANCNFG ā configuration subvolume
$DISKB.TRANDATA ā database files
$DISKA.TRANNAME -- name directory files
All three subvolumes must be on disks that are audited by TMF. To make sure the
disks chosen are audited, the system manager starts TMFCOM and issues the STATUS
VOLUMES command.
Step 3: Copy DEFAULTS
Files to Create
DEFINE Files
Next, the system manager copies from the DSV subvolume ($DISKX.TRANDSV) the
defaults files for the Base TRANSFER and PS MAIL 6530 components. The defaults
files are renamed with the prefix DEFINE. The commands typed at the TACL prompt
are:
> VOLUME $DISKA.TRANCNFG
> FUP DUP $DISKX.TRANDSV.TRDEFLTS,DEFINETR
> FUP DUP $DISKX.MLDSV.MLDEFLTS,DEFINEML
