Folder File, Inverted Folder File, and IFOLDER1 File
The Folder (FOLDER) file contains the part of a depot that identifies the items and
packages in each of the folders belonging to that depot. This file is used to determine
which items and packages are stored in a particular folder. When a correspondent is
initially registered with TRANSFER, three folders are automatically created for the
depot. These folders—the INBOX, the OUTLOG, and the WASTEBASKET—are
special-purpose folders maintained by TRANSFER. When a group is initially
established, one special folder—the INBOX—is automatically created and maintained
by TRANSFER. You can configure the names of special folders for the character map
you use. For information about configuring the special-folder names, see the
TRANSFER Programming Guide.
The Inverted Folder (IFOLDER) file contains the IDs of items and packages and
identifies the folders in which each item or package is stored. This file is used to
determine which folders include a particular item or package.
The IFOLDER1 file is an alternate key file for the IFOLDER file. IFOLDER1 identifies
only named items stored within folders and is used to ensure unique item names
within folders.
The actual items and packages are not stored in either the Folder file or the Inverted
Folder file; instead, these files contain the IDs assigned to the items and packages in
folders defined at your node. Items and packages can be in multiple folders belonging
to multiple depots without replicating the data. The combination of depot ID, folder
ID, and item ID or item name uniquely identifies each item or package that belongs to
a correspondent.
“Partitioning TRANSFER Database Files” in Section 12, “Troubleshooting,” explains
how to partition the Folder file and the Inverted Folder file.
Distribution List File
The Distribution List (DISTLIST) file contains the names of the members of each
distribution list defined at your node. A member of a distribution list can be a
correspondent name or another distribution list name. Member distribution list names
are not expanded until the distribution list is used as a recipient name for a package.
A distribution list can include members defined at any node in the network.
Verification of member names occurs either when the list is created or when the list is
used for delivery of a package. Two control flags in the TRANSFER correspondent
profile of the correspondent who owns the distribution list determine when member
names are verified.
