The TRANSFER Environment

Recipient File
The Recipient (RECIP) file contains the recipient names for all packages sent from your
node as well as the recipient names in packages transported to your node from other
nodes. A recipient name is a correspondent name, an interest group name, or a
distribution list name. X400 recipient names are kept in the X400 Name file with all
other X400 names.
When a package is created at your node, all recipient names for that package are
added to the Recipient file. When the package is sent, local distribution list names are
expanded to include the members of that distribution list. If a recipient name is
remote, TRANSFER transports that name and a copy of the package to the remote
node. Recipient names are also added to your node’s Recipient file when packages
posted at remote nodes indicate recipient names at your node.
The Recipient file tells, for each recipient, when the package was delivered. For a local
recipient, package delivery means that an entry was made in the INBOX folder
belonging to the depot of the recipient. For a remote recipient, package delivery
means the recipient name was added to the remote Recipient file; the TRANSFER
system at that node is then responsible for local delivery of the package.
“Partitioning TRANSFER Database Files” in Section 12, “Troubleshooting,” explains
how to partition the Recipient file.
Item Descriptor File and Item Data File
The Item Descriptor (ITEMDESC) file contains records that describe the attributes and
composition of packages and items stored by correspondents at your node. The Item
Data (ITEMDATA) file contains the actual data for the items and packages described
in the Item Descriptor file.
“Partitioning TRANSFER Database Files” in Section 12, “Troubleshooting,” explains
how to partition the Item Descriptor file and the Item Data file.
Attachment Files
Two files contain information about items attached to other items in TRANSFER:
The External Objects (EXTOBJS) file contains records that describe objects external
to the TRANSFER database—such as GUARDIAN 90 files—that are attached to
TRANSFER items. An external object can be connected to the TRANSFER
database either directly, through attachment to an item, or indirectly, through
attachment to another external object. The file allows applications to specify
external objects by name as well as by an object ID.
The Inverted Attachment (IATTACH) file contains information that shows
whether an item ID or external object ID is attached to another item or primary
external object.
