Glossary
13198 Tandem Computers Incorporated Glossary–5
Foreign domain. An X400 domain outside the TRANSFER network.
FOSERV. Format server, used in the FORMAT server class to format screen data
internally for the PS MAIL 6530 and PS MAIL 3270 clients.
FPSERV. File Utility Program (FUP) server, which is invoked by the TISERV, TWORK,
and GFILE to create and copy external objects. It is not configured as a PATHWAY
server class.
Fully qualified correspondent name. A name that includes the complete name of the
correspondent, interest group, or distribution list and the network node.
Fully qualified file name. A file specification that includes the volume, subvolume, and
file name ($
vol.subvol.filename
).
GFSERV. GFILE server, used in the GFILE server class to access GUARDIAN 90 files
for PS MAIL 6530 and PS MAIL 3270; and in the TTY-GFILE server class to access
GUARDIAN 90 files for PS MAIL TTY.
Group depot. The depot for an interest group. Each interest group has a group depot
with profiles, folders, and distribution lists, like those for a correspondent depot.
GUARDIAN 90 operating system. The Tandem operating system.
HELD queue. One of the four queues for which TSAMPLE collects--at configurable
intervals--counts of work scheduled. The HELD queue contains requests that produce
an unexpected or nonretryable error during processing. If a request can be tried again,
it is retried a set number of times; if it continues to fail, the request is moved to the
HELD queue.
Importance. A value—low, normal, or high—assigned to an X.400 package. For
packages that are not of the mail type, the Importance field is not used because
importance is a P2 concept.
Importer. The X400 Importer server.
INBOX folder. A special folder that is automatically created for each correspondent.
TRANSFER delivers a package to the INBOX folder of each recipient of the package.
Information Xchange Facility (IXF). A software product used to exchange data between a
Tandem host network and a Tandem workstation.
Installation subvolume (ISV). A subvolume in which the RESTDSV and REPSUBSYS
phases of the INSTALL program group the DSVs from the SUT. Contrast with DSV
and User-DSV.
Interest group. A group of correspondents who have a common interest or function and
can share access to group folders and add their names to group distribution lists.
Group members can read items in a group bulletin board folder and save items to the
bulletin board for others to read. Each interest group has a group depot with profiles,
folders, and distribution lists, like those for a correspondent depot.
Interprocess communication (IPC). The request to or reply from the TRANSFER
interactive server. The IPC contains a header and one or more units-of-work.
