TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide
Glossary

PRMD name. The name of the PRMD that is assigned to a TRANSFER correspondent;
the PRMD name comes from the configuration parameters when the X400 gateway is
installed on a node. All TRANSFER correspondents registered on nodes grouped into
the same domain have the same PRMD name. PRMD names are required for X400
messages coming into a TRANSFER system; PRMD names are optional for X400
messages exported from a TRANSFER system.
Process. A running program.
Profile. A collection of attributes that describes an individual depot, a group depot, or
the system as a whole. Each depot has a TRANSFER correspondent profile and a mail
profile. Any depot can also include one or more agent profiles and user-supplied
profiles. In TRANSFER the attributes of the depot specified in the correspondent or
interest group profile are limited by the attributes that control the system. Those
attributes are configured for the TRANSFER system control profile by the system
manager on the ADMIN TRANSFER SYSTEM CONTROL screen.
Pseudo-terminal. A PATHWAY requester process that has no user interface.
PS MAIL 3270. A client that enables users to exchange mail electronically in full-screen
mode on IBM 3270 terminals or compatible terminals.
PS MAIL 6530. A client that enables users to exchange mail electronically in a full-screen
mode on Tandem 6530 terminals or compatible terminals.
PS MAIL TTY. A client that enables users to exchange mail electronically on
conversational terminals.
PSSERV. Process initiator server, in the PROCESS-SERVER server class. Process
servers are used by PS MAIL 6530 and PS MAIL 3270 to invoke and monitor the editor
and formatter processes. In addition, the process server invokes the TIXF program,
found on the Base TRANSFER subvolume, to handle Information Xchange Facility
(IXF) requests over MULTILAN.
PUBLIC group. A special interest group that TRANSFER automatically creates and
maintains at each node. All local correspondents are, by default, members of the
PUBLIC group and have shared access to the PUBLIC folders and distribution lists at
that node.
Queue. A list of queue entries. Functions are provided to enqueue (add) entries,
dequeue (retrieve and delete) entries, read entries, and wait for entries to appear.
Queue entry. Application data that must fit in a single record.
Queue file. An audited key-sequenced file in which multiple queues are stored.
Queue management. An operating environment in which a set of queues are managed
for two or more programs.
Queue Manager. An optional queuing facility that lets requesters add an entry and
retrieve an entry from a queue for processing. The Queue Manager can be used
independently of TRANSFER; it is automatically installed when you configure the
TRANSFER X400 gateway.
