Glossary
13198 Tandem Computers Incorporated Glossary–11
Simple name. A name used either by itself or in combination with other simple names
to identify a correspondent, folder, distribution list, or a named instance of an item. A
simple name can have a maximum of 32 characters, which must be chosen from the
name character set in effect for TRANSFER.
Site Update Tape (SUT) . The tape on which Tandem ships its software for installation.
The product files on the SUT tape are grouped into distribution subvolumes (DSVs),
the names of which appear on the last part of the packing list.
SMSERV. The interactive TRANSFER system-management server, which performs
system-management functions. The system-management server is called by
TMANAGER.
SPREP. TRANSFER statistics program that initializes statistics when statistics
collection is first configured on a system or when the statistics configuration changes.
Although it is not an actual server, SPREP uses the A-STATS server class. When
statistics are being collected and their initialization is complete, this program is
stopped automatically by TRANSFER.
Suffix. One or more characters enclosed in parentheses and appended to a
correspondent name for use by agents assigned to the depot of the recipient. Any
characters except commas, single and double quotation marks, and parentheses can
appear in a suffix.
System administrative read privileges. Privileges granted to one or more correspondents
on a node that allow those correspondents to examine, but not change, the contents of
a depot belonging to any correspondent or interest group.
System administrative write privileges. Special privileges granted to one or more users on
each node of a system to allow that user to use ADMIN to register and delete other
correspondents, interest groups, folders, and distribution lists; read and modify many
of the attributes of these entities; and configure certain system control parameters.
System control record. A profile record that contains global parameters for the node.
System trigger. The character that introduces system names when they appear in
TRANSFER names. The at sign (@) is the default system trigger.
TAL. The Tandem Transaction Application Language that is used to write systems
software and routines that support transaction-oriented applications.
TAREQ pseudo-terminal. TRANSFER asynchronous requester. The number of TAREQ
pseudo-terminals that you define, in conjunction with your definition of the TWORK
server class, determines the number of simultaneous asynchronous local operations
and outgoing network operations that can be active at a single time. The TWORK and
TISERV-ASYNC server classes must be defined to have at least one member for each
TAREQ pseudo-terminal you define.
TAREQ-TCP. TRANSFER asynchronous requester TCP that runs the TAREQ and
TFRONT pseudo-terminals. At least one TAREQ-TCP must be defined. See
TRANSFER asynchronous requester.
