UA (User Agent). The functional object that represents the user in the X400 message
handling system. It interacts directly with the user, prepares messages, and submits
messages for routing to their destinations. UAs also reply, retrieve, and forward
messages for the user.
Unit-of-work (UOW). An elementary operation to be performed by the TRANSFER
interactive server; in the queue management environment, an elementary operation to
be performed by an Entry Manager or the Wait Manager. Several units-of-work can
appear within an IPC, but only one unit-of-work can appear for the Wait Manager.
Unsave item. The act of removing an item from a folder. Compare Delete item.
Unsave time. The time when an item is automatically removed from a folder.
UOW. See Unit-of-work.
User application. An application that a user develops and supplies to run on a
TRANSFER system.
User ID. A name assigned by the system manager, consisting of a group ID and a
unique user ID (for example, REP.STEVE).
User-defined profile. A depot profile that includes information about a correspondent for
programs developed by Tandem users.
User-DSV. A subvolume on your TRANSFER system on which resides a copy of the
Tandem distribution subvolume with software for TRANSFER and clients supplied by
Tandem. Contrast with DSV and ISV.
WASTEBASKET folder. A special folder, automatically created for each session started by
a correspondent, where PS MAIL files messages the correspondent deletes from other
folders. When a session is terminated, the WASTEBASKET folder for that session is
deleted.
Wild-card character. An asterisk included in a TRANSFER simple name to indicate that
any character or characters can appear in that position. The separator period must be
entered when wild-card characters are used in a fully qualified name. Contrast with
Pattern.
X400. The TRANSFER implementation of X.400 standards. TRANSFER sends X400
messages to X400 recipients through the X400 gateway. TRANSFER has X400 servers
and configures an X400 depot at X400 nodes. See X.400.
_X400_. The name of the X400 gateway depot. If an item is imported by the
TRANSFER X400 gateway, the creator name is identified by _X400_.
X.400. An international standard of architecture and protocols for exchanging
messages.
X400 correspondent. A correspondent that sends packages through the TRANSFER
X400 gateway to X.400 nodes that are not on TRANSFER systems.
