TRANSFER Installation and Management Guide

Base TRANSFER Configuration
The TRANSFER Environment
068837, Update 1 to 013198 Tandem Computers Incorporated 2–21
Base TRANSFER includes the TRANSFER administrative programs, ADMIN and
TMANAGER, which are full-screen clients. These clients add the following objects to
the TRANSFER PATHWAY configuration:
TRAN-TCP
TRANSFER requester TCP that runs the ADMIN and TMANAGER programs. At
least one TRAN-TCP must be defined; you usually do not need to have more than
one.
ADMIN
TRANSFER administrator program. The ADMIN program can be used by the
system administrator to create or delete correspondents, interest groups, folders,
or distribution lists. You can also use it to modify some system and correspondent
depot profile elements. An ADMIN program is configured automatically into
your TRANSFER system.
With the C30 or a later release of TRANSFER, a remote user of ADMIN can log on
as a system administrator and administer a TRANSFER system from another
node. Both the local system and the remote system must have the C30 or a later
version of ADMIN installed because ADMIN uses the text server on the remote
system and expects it to reference the C30 or a later version of the text file.
In order for ADMIN users to log on to their depots from another node, you must
set these PATHWAY parameters for remote logon:
The value of MAXEXTERNALTCPS in the PATHWAY system at the user’s
home node must be set to a value greater than zero. The default is 10.
To determine the value of MAXEXTERNALTCPS, decide how many external
TCPs you want to have concurrently communicating with each other.
The value of MAXPATHWAYS for the TCPs on the local node must be set to
a value greater than zero. The default is 0.
To determine the value of MAXPATHWAYS, decide how many remote
PATHWAY systems need to access the local node concurrently.
Note For remote logon, PATHMON names must match. If the local PATHMON name is different from the
remote PATHMON name, remote logon fails with an error 7499 0014.
TMANAGER
TRANSFER monitor program. The TMANAGER program can be used by the
system manager to examine the status of packages or monitor system queues. You
can use TMANAGER as a tool to monitor performance of the TRANSFER system
and to tune it for maximum performance. A TMANAGER program is configured
automatically into your TRANSFER system.
ADMIN requires TISERV; TMANAGER requires both TISERV and SMSERV.
