X400 Names X400 correspondent names are used as originator and recipient (O/R) addresses,
which provide routing information for an X.400 message delivery system. O/R
addresses are functionally like TRANSFER names, but they contain more attributes.
X400 names include:
Country name
ADMD name
PRMD name
Organization name
Personal name
The country name, the ADMD name, and the PRMD name that are assigned to a
TRANSFER correspondent come from the configuration parameters when the gateway
is installed on a node. All TRANSFER correspondents registered on nodes grouped
into the same domain have the same country, ADMD, and PRMD names. Section 6,
“System Installation Procedures,” discusses configuring these names.
In a Tandem X400 network, the organization name is the name of the node where the
correspondent is registered. The backslash in the node name is not included in the
X400 name. The surname part of the personal name is the TRANSFER correspondent
name.
Note
Tandem recommends that you do not specify a personal name when configuring a TRANSFER X400
gateway. A generic configuration is easier to maintain.
When a message is routed to its destination in a TRANSFER X400 network, the X400
name is used hierarchically. The message is first routed to the country and the
ADMD, then if the PRMD attribute is present, to the PRMD. From there, any other
attributes are used by the domain that is to deliver the message.
In addition to those listed above, X400 names can have these attributes:
Organizational-unit name
Domain-defined attributes
X.121 terminal name
The TRANSFER Programming Guide describes O/R address formats in detail and
discusses how TRANSFER maps data to and from X400 messages.
Each correspondent has a depot profile. Among other attributes, the depot profile can
contain default values for country, ADMD, PRMD, and organization names that the
correspondent addresses frequently. When you want to enter the X400 name of a
correspondent that you correspond with regularly, you can retrieve these defaults and
display them in the appropriate field; you do not have to type them each time.
