4 Preparing to Install a TRANSFER

Overview Before you use the TRANSFER installation procedures, you need to copy TRANSFER
software files and prepare them for use.
TRANSFER software arrives at your site on a Site Update (SUT) Tape. The product
files on the SUT tape are grouped into distribution subvolumes (DSVs), the names of
which appear on the last part of the packing list. These names are in the form
Yxxxxzzz where xxxx is the product number and zzz is the release number—for
instance, Y9110C30.
The RESTDSV and REPSUBSYS phases of the INSTALL program take these DSVs
from the SUT and group them into subvolumes called installation subvolumes
(ISVs). The ISVs for TRANSFER system components are:
ZTRANSFR, which includes files for Base TRANSFER, TMANAGER, ADMIN,
and the X400 gateway
ZMAIL653, which includes files for the PS MAIL 6530 client
ZMAIL327, which includes files for the PS MAIL 3270 client
ZMAILTTY, which includes files for the PS MAIL TTY client
Preparing a User-DSV After you have run the system installation program INSTALL—including the
REPSUBSYS phase—to install the new software supplied by Tandem, copy each ISV
for the TRANSFER system components to another subvolume. The copy of the ISV
that you make is called a user distribution subvolume, or user-DSV, and is the
subvolume from which the component software is run. You can copy the ISVs into
one user-DSV or into separate user-DSVs.
This guide refers to the user-DSVs separately only for clarity. If you use all
components, you have the following user-DSVs:
TRANSFER user-DSV
MAIL6530 user-DSV
MAIL3270 user-DSV
MAILTTY user-DSV
Consider the space on the volume to which you copy the user-DSVs. If your volume
$SYSTEM is almost full, you can put the user-DSVs on another volume.
Use the user-DSVs to define and run your TRANSFER system. The installation
procedures in this manual assume that you use the user-DSVs.
Appendix C lists the files residing in the user-DSVs for each system component.
