Editing Define Files
Defining a TRANSFER System
5–8 068837, Update 1 to 013198 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Editing Define Files When editing the define files, you can change default parameter values to values you
want to use for your system, delete inapplicable optional parameters, and add optional
parameters as needed. The only part of a keyword parameter name that you can
change is a terminating number.
Parameter values have different forms according to value type. The following list
shows typical types:
CPU pair: (0:1)
When editing these values, keep the parentheses and colon. Change the numbers
to appropriate CPU pairs for your system. For example, the entry (9:10) is valid.
File specification: $vol.subvol.FILENAME
A volume and subvolume are always required for a file specification. Uppercase
characters represent a default value. Lowercase characters indicate required
information that you must enter.
When a reasonable default applies, such as $SYSTEM.SYSTEM, the volume and
subvolume appear in uppercase characters.
Process name: $ZTAA:Z
The default files provide default process names. You can change these names.
You assign a process name for every PATHWAY system process configured for
the TRANSFER system. For more information about process names, see
"PATHWAY Process Names" later in this section.
Miscellaneous
Numbers, YES or NO values, extents, and GUARDIAN 90 file-security
specifications appear as parameter values. The default files contain valid default
values. In editing these values, enter a valid specification for value type.
Only one keyword parameter together with the parameter value can appear on a line.
You can insert comments. Any text in a line following the double hyphens (--) is
considered a comment.
