PATHWAY Process Names
Defining a TRANSFER System

PATHWAY Process Names PATHWAY process names specified in define files must follow the rules for naming
PATHWAY processes.
In assigning names, you must consider the additional character that can be appended
to the name during name generation (described later in this section) for a PATHWAY
object with multiple process definitions. The process-name generation conventions
apply to the process names you specify.
The following rules apply to PATHWAY process names:
A process name begins with a dollar sign ($).
The characters allowed in the name are:
Letters A through Z (Uppercase and lowercase are equivalent.)
Digits 0 through 9
A letter must follow the $.
The maximum length for a process name is four characters excluding the initial $
for remote names; local names can have five characters, not counting the initial $.
Pathway server names are, however, limited to a $ followed by four alphanumeric
characters, for a total of five characters.
Process-Name Generation
The definition programs provide for name generation of process names for terminals
and TCPs from a single name specification.
PATHWAY process names must be unique in your system. The defaults files provide
default process names that result in unique names. Process name generation follows
the same conventions whether you use your own names or default names.
Part of the process-name specification includes a range specification for generating
multiple names. For example, as shown in Figure 5-4, the Base TRANSFER define file
provides default process names for TRAN-TCPs for ADMIN and TMANAGER.
