Character Set Support

The TRANSFER delivery system supports limited input and output capabilities in
languages other than English so that correspondents who use TRANSFER clients can
work in their own native languages. This feature is especially helpful in distributed
systems where correspondents communicate using different languages.
National Languages Support for languages other than English applies to output messages and limited
portions of input messages, as follows:
For output messages (text that the TRANSFER delivery system generates for its
clients, which they can then display), the language selected applies to all types of
messages originated by the TRANSFER delivery system. These include:
Screen labels
Error messages
Help text
Names of the TRANSFER special folders (named in English the INBOX,
OUTLOG, and WASTEBASKET)
TAREQ event packages, which pass information from TRANSFER
asynchronous requesters to clients.
For input messages (requests that correspondents issue to the TRANSFER delivery
system through the clients), the language selected applies only to the names of the
TRANSFER special folders.
Note The language selected applies only to output messages and limited portions of input messages. The
language selected does not apply to text that appears in item data records (that is, the contents of
packages that correspondents exchange). Text that appears in item data records originates with the
correspondents themselves and not with the TRANSFER delivery system.
For example, a correspondent using a TRANSFER client can view screen labels, error
messages, and help text in that correspondent's native language. A German user can
refer to INBOX, OUTLOG, and WASTEBASKET as EINGANGSPOST,
AUSGANGSPOST, and PAPIERKORB, respectively.
