Interfacing with
Tandem Mail Clients
The following pages offer guidelines for interacting with all Tandem mail clients.
Items If the ITEM-TYPE field does not contain the values 109 through 114, 120, 121, or 150, or
the item descriptor does not indicate a package header, the mail client does not
attempt to display the entire package or item; instead, the mail client presents only
selected data from the item descriptor such as item type, creator name, or creation
date.
The mail client strips out all embedded ASCII control characters from TTEXT items
and package header items containing TTEXT data before the items are displayed.
Records The mail client requests 140-byte subject text records and displays each record as two
70-byte lines.
Although the unformatted text record can contain up to 2000 bytes of ASCII text, only
the first 79 bytes are displayed.
Recipients The mail client adds recipients using the standard recipient types. Table A-5 lists the
standard recipient types.
The mail client does not depend on the TRANSFER recipient lists (available through
the GET-RECIP-REC UOW) to display the recipients. Use these RECIP-TYPE values if
you want your application to remain compatible with the mail client and other
applications compatible with this client. When the RECIP-TYPE field contains either
323 or 340, Tandem mail clients use only the first 70 bytes of each record.
