TRANSFER Programming Manual

External Object Manipulation
TRANSFER Services
5–8 40970 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Only a correspondent with system administrator capability at a node can create
folders, delete folders, or obtain a list of folders that belong to another correspondent
at that same node.
External Object
Manipulation
The way in which your client handles external objects and presents information about
them to correspondents is defined by the client, not by the TRANSFER delivery
system. The TRANSFER system can, however, provide the client with information
that simplifies this task, allowing your client to display data about these objects.
Attachments When your system administrator has enabled the external objects capability at your
node, your application can:
Attach one or more primary external objects to an existing item. The item must be
in the alterable state—that is, the item as well as the root item of every item tree
containing the item must not have been submitted for delivery. You cannot attach
a primary object to another primary object.
Attach one or more alternate external objects to an existing item or an existing
primary object. An alternate external object can be attached at any time.
Examples of possible attachments appear in Figure 5-1.
