Guidelines for Customizing
an X400 Message
The following paragraphs provide guidelines for customizing X400 messages.
Once you create a mail item, select P2 service elements that apply to your message.
The service element descriptions in “X400 Service Elements,” later in this section,
describe how to set each element. Depending on the type of service element, you set a
field in the item descriptor, add an appropriate item record, or set flags when you add
the recipients. The following features are examples of P2 service elements:
Primary, copy, and blind copy recipients
Expiration date
Subject
Receipt notification request
Select P1 service elements that apply to your message. Because mail messages are
embedded in P1 messages, you can always use P1 service elements with mail
messages. These service elements might include the following:
Grade of delivery (priority)
Content type, if your message contains data other than text
Delivery notification request
Use the ATTACH-COMPNT-A01 UOW to attach messages as components to your
messages.
When all service elements have been specified, submit the package as described in
“Basic Steps for Sending a Package,” earlier in this section.
To customize a nonmail X400 message, select P1 service elements that apply to your
message, attach components as needed, and submit the package as described in “Basic
Steps for Sending a Package.”
