X400 Service Elements This subsection describes service elements that are provided for X400 messages.
The TRANSFER delivery system stores most service elements in one of three locations:
Service elements with one word of text or no text reside in the item descriptor.
Service elements that contain more than one word of text reside in a specific item
data record defined for them.
Recipient-related and name-related service elements reside with recipient or name
data, respectively.
A few service elements are provided automatically by the TRANSFER delivery system
and the X400 Gateway.
Table 6-6 lists service elements that are supported by the TRANSFER delivery system.
The table indicates whether a service element is part of the P1 or P2 protocol. When
you construct a mail message (TRANSFER package type 109 through 114), you can use
any P1 or P2 service element. The distinction between P1 and P2 elements is
important only if you want to send a nonmail message to an X400 recipient. In such a
case, you cannot use P2 service elements; if you specify a P2 service element, the X400
Gateway ignores the service element.
