Interprocess communication (IPC). The request to or reply from the TRANSFER
interactive server. The IPC contains a header and one or more units-of-work.
IPC header. The first entry in an IPC. The header in an IPC request establishes
processing conditions. The header in an IPC reply indicates what occurred during
processing.
IPC interface. The means by which a client communicates with TRANSFER.
Item. A collection of information that has a unique identity and that consists of an item
descriptor and zero or more data records. A simple item is an item with no other
items connected to it; a component item is an item with an attached tree--other items
that each can be simple or component. External objects are attachments to an item.
Item descriptor. A record or collection of records that describe the attributes and
composition of an item.
Item retention time. The length of time items are stored in a folder or depot.
Item storage statistic. The byte count of data in an item saved to one or more folders.
This data includes item data and external objects. TRANSFER totals item storage
statistics to compute storage statistics for a specific folder.
Level. The number indicating whether an attachment is attached to a message (level 1),
to an attachment (level 2), to an attachment to an attachment (level 3), and so on.
Local correspondent. A correspondent at the same node.
Log. A file generated by TRANSFER asynchronous processes to provide information
that can help you monitor your TRANSFER system. Logs include SPREP logs,
TSCHED logs, TWORK logs, TRECV logs, and X400 importer and exporter logs.
Mail profile. A depot profile that contains parameters used during mail sessions
initiated by the correspondent.
Member. An entity named in a distribution list. The member can be the name of a
correspondent, an interest group, or another distribution list.
Model depot. An existing depot whose profiles are copied for a new correspondent.
MR group. The functional part of the Tandem OSI/MHS system with which the X400
gateway communicates.
MTA (Message Transfer Agent). The functional object that routes X400 messages through
an X.400 network.
Name character set. The group of characters within the base character set that
TRANSFER accepts within simple names. A standard name character set is furnished
with TRANSFER.
Name directory. See TRANSFER name directory.
Name resolution. The means by which TRANSFER establishes the validity of a name.
TRANSFER fully qualifies the name and then validates the name by checking the
TRANSFER name directory.
