Glossary–10 40969 Tandem Computers Incorporated
Recipient. A correspondent to whom a package is delivered.
Recipient list. The names of correspondents, interest groups, and distribution lists that
are to receive a particular package. The recipient list is an attribute of the package and
applies only to the package for which the recipient list is created. Contrast with
distribution list.
Recipient name. A correspondent name, interest group name, or distribution list name
that appears in the recipient list for a particular package.
Registration. An action by which a correspondent is made known to the TRANSFER
system with a unique correspondent name and password; a depot is automatically
created for that correspondent during registration.
Remote correspondent. A correspondent at a different node in the network.
Requester. A process that executes application-program object code and sends requests
to a server.
Sample interval. A set time period for which the depot storage facility collects depot
statistics information.
SCF (Subsystem Control Facility). A Tandem software product that helps you monitor
your network.
Scheduler. The TRANSFER process that handles asynchronous events; the scheduler
monitors posted packages and assigns them to TRANSFER asynchronous requesters
for delivery at the appropriate time.
SCREEN COBOL. A procedural language that is used to define and control terminal
displays.
Sensitivity. A value—personal, private, company-confidential, or none—assigned to
an X.400 message. TRANSFER does not enforce the sensitivity restrictions; however, it
does provide clients with a value on which to base enforcement of these restrictions.
Server. See Server class.
Server class. A grouping of duplicate copies of a single server program; server
processes within the class have identical attributes.
Server process. A process that implements application requests and sends replies to the
requester; synonymous with Server.
Session. The period of time during which a correspondent can submit requests to
TRANSFER. A correspondent must specifically initiate and should terminate a
session.
Simple name. A name used either by itself or in combination with other simple names
to identify a correspondent, folder, distribution list, or a named instance of an item. A
simple name can have a maximum of 32 characters, which must be chosen from the
name character set in effect for TRANSFER.
