SHUTDOWN2 PATHWAY
These commands are disabled when the PATHMON process is in the
ZPWY-VAL-SHUTDOWN state:
When ZMODE is set to ORDERLY, the file used to communicate with the
PATHMON process is busy processing the shutdown request. To escalate the
shutdown, open the PATHMON process again and then send a SHUTDOWN2
PATHWAY command with ZMODE set to ABORT or IMMEDIATE. The error
ZPWY-ERR-PM-SHUTDOWN-ESCALATED is then sent to the initial shutdown
requester. The requester can either close the file or use that file to monitor the
shutdown.
When ZMODE is set to ORDERLY or ABORT mode, the PATHMON process
sends a single shutdown request to each locally controlled Pathway/iTS TCP. The
TCP acknowledges the request and begins the shutdown phase, denying all
requests to start new work. This mode of operation allows all locally controlled
TCPs to shut down in parallel, reducing the time required to shut down the
Pathway subsystem.
When ZMODE is set to IMMEDIATE mode, the PATHMON process immediately
stops all servers and Pathway/iTS TCPs, halting any work currently in progress.
This mode further reduces the time required to shut down the Pathway subsystem.
However, because the TCPs are immediately stopped, they are unable to reset
terminals. For more information on resetting terminals, see the Pathway/iTS
Management Programming Manual.
During shutdown, the PATHMON process automatically stops logging all status
messages except messages 1005 (shutdown completed) and message 1151
(PATHMON stopped), which are logged as usual.
The error ZPWY-ERR-PM-SHUTDOWNTIMEOUT (error 1154) indicates that the
subsystem has not shut down, but the SHUTDOWN2 PATHWAY command has
timed out.
