Introduction to NonStop TS/MP
System Management
This section briefly describes the objects and processes in a Pathway online
transaction processing (OLTP) environment. This section also introduces the tasks
you perform to manage a PATHMON environment, as well as applicable tools and
commands.
Depending on your hardware and software configuration, a Pathway environment
includes one of these:
The NonStop TS/MP product
Both the NonStop TS/MP and Pathway/iTS products
Your Pathway environment also includes processes and objects you create. The key
elements of a Pathway environment are listed below. Each element is described in
detail later in this section.
Objects and Processes Provided by NonStop TS/MP
These elements of a PATHMON environment are provided by the NonStop TS/MP
product. Information about configuring and managing these items is given in this
manual.
PATHMONthe process that defines and manages SERVER objects andif your
environment includes Pathway/iTSTCPs, TERM objects, and PROGRAM
objects. Each PATHMON environment includes only one PATHMON process.
PATHCOMthe interactive interface to the PATHMON process. As an alternative
to using PATHCOM, you can write a management application program, using the
Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI).
SERVER objects the definitions of server classes (multiple copies of server
programs). An executing server program is called a server process. You use the
PATHMON process to configure and manage Guardian server programs, which
reside in the Guardian operating environment, and OSS server programs, which
reside in the OSS operating environment.
LINKMONthe process that manages communications between Pathsend
processes and server classes. (Pathsend processes are user applications that use
Pathsend procedure calls to send requests to server classes.) The LINKMON
process functions as a link manager, providing link management functions for
Note. This manual provides information specific to processes and commands that deal with
objects managed through the NonStop TS/MP product. Commands dealing with TCP, TERM,
and PROGRAM objects, which are provided by the Pathway/iTS product, are described in the
Pathway/iTS System Management Manual
