Transaction Sources
A variety of devices and processes may interact with the PATHMON process and its
objects to supply required resources and services or to make requests. These include
PATHCOM or a management application process (described in System
Management Tools on page 1-17), as well as terminals controlled by TCP objects. In
addition, these devices and processes might include:
•
Personal computers and workstations (using the Remote Server Call (RSC)
product)
•
External TCP objects, that is, Pathway/iTS terminals running outside of your
PATHMON environment
•
Intelligent devices such as an automated teller machine (using intelligent device
support (IDS)
•
SNA devices (using the SNAX High-Level Support (SNAX/HLS) product)
•
Unsupported or special-function I/O devices (using the Extended General Device
Support (GDSX) product)
•
Pathsend processes (using Pathsend procedure calls to communicate with the
LINKMON process)
Figure 1-5 on page 1-11 shows devices that interact with PATHMON-controlled
objects, either directly or through the LINKMON process.
Note. Although LINKMON processes are visible to the PATHMON process, they are not
entities controlled or managed by the PATHMON process. For more information about the
LINKMON process and Pathsend requesters, see Section 6, Managing the Pathsend
Environment.
