V4SE and V8SE Enclosures for NonStop S-Series Servers

1 V4SE and V8SE Enclosures
Product Overview
Two products are available to replace the discontinued single-port Gigabit Ethernet ServerNet
Adapter, GESA (3865-C and 3865-F), and in some cases the single-port 100 Mps Ethernet controller,
FESA (Fast Ethernet ServerNet Adapter):
V4SE: A Versatile Ethernet ServerNet (VES) enclosure with 4 Ethernet ports, two of which
are Gigabit per second Ethernet ports. A pair of V4SE enclosures provide four 10/100/1000
Mbps Ethernet ports and four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports.
V8SE: A Versatile Ethernet ServerNet (VES) enclosure with 8 Ethernet ports, four of which
are Gigabit per second Ethernet ports. A pair of V8SE enclosures provide eight 10/100/1000
Mbps Ethernet ports and eight 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports.
For fault-tolerance, V4SE and V8SE enclosures are always configured in pairs. One enclosure in
the pair connects to the X-fabric and the other enclosure in the pair connects to the Y-fabric.
V4SE and V8SE enclosures, and the modular cabinets that contain them, can be installed and
serviced only by service providers trained by HP.
Supported Servers and Software
V4SE and V8SE enclosures are available for these NonStop S-series servers, and all mentions of
NonStop S-series servers in this document are restricted to the NonStop S-series server models
in this list:
NOTE: These servers must have MSEBs installed. You cannot connect V4SE or V8SE enclosures
to SEBs.
S74000
S76000
S78000
S86000
S88000
The V4SE and V8SE enclosures are supported for servers running G06.24 and later G-series
RVUs. For servers running RVUs G06.24 through G06.31, you must install these products before
you connect the hardware:
This version or a later version of the NonStop System Console Installer DVD:
S7X-SWV2/HNSC-SWV2, Update 4
This independent product: S8803V1, VxSE SPRs S-Series
NOTE: TSM does not support V4SE or V8SE enclosures. You must use OSM to manage these
enclosures.
If you have V4SE or V8SE enclosures installed on your system and you upgrade that system to
an RVU earlier than G06.32, you must reinstall the independent product S8803V1, VxSE SPRs
S-Series, before you can use the hardware.
Hardware Description
Each enclosure is 4U high and must be installed in the modular cabinet that is used for NonStop
NS-series servers. You can find planning information about the modular cabinet in the NonStop
NS14000 Series Planning Guide. V4SE and V8SE enclosures, and the modular cabinets that contain
them, can be installed and serviced only by service providers authorized by HP.
