About This Manual
Introduction
ViewPoint is a multiple-function application that allows you to manage a network of
Compaq systems from a single terminal such as from an operator console. It provides
an integrated view of the status of a group of distributed systems and the events that
occur on the systems. ViewPoint is easily distributed, has fault-tolerant operation,
supports multiple terminals, and can be customized by the user.
This manual discusses aspects of the ViewPoint console application that are of interest
to several types of users:
•
The person who uses ViewPoint to monitor and control systems and subsystems in a
Compaq network. This user should be familiar with the Compaq Tandem
Advanced Command Language (TACL).
•
The person who installs and configures ViewPoint. This user should be familiar
with configuring a Pathway application.
•
The person who customizes the ViewPoint application should know how to write
Pathway requesters and servers and how to write filters using the Event
Management Service (EMS) filter language. This person also might need to know
how to use the Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI).
