Defining Virtual Tapes
Virtual tapes are the virtual representations of tape drives that are presented to all hosts at all times.
These representations are required because:
• Many hosts cannot dynamically configure drives after the boot process.
• Host software might not support writing to a disk array. In this case, the array drive is hidden,
and an emulation of a host-supported drive is presented to the host. Virtual TapeServer can
present different emulations to multiple hosts even though the physical array might be the
same.
• A virtual tape can represent different drives or drive configurations.
To define virtual tapes:
1. Select Manage Connections > Manage Tape Connections.
2. Select Delete a Tape Connection and the tape connection using the logical tape to
be modified. Click Delete Tape Connection and return to Manage Tape
Connections.
3. Select Virtual Tapes > Edit an existing virtual tape.
