Upgrading VTS
The following procedure describes how to upgrade a 6.03.39, 6.03.41, or 6.03.42 system, which
may take up to one hour to complete. Be sure to complete the steps in
Performing pre-upgrade
steps on page 173 prior to performing this procedure.
During the upgrade, the following log files are written:
• /VAULT00/.vts-upgrade/VTS-60401-upgrade-prep.log
• /usr/local/tape/log/vts-post-install.log
To upgrade the VTS server
1. Insert the VTS Install/Upgrade/Rescue DVD and then mount it. For example, to mount
the DVD on /mnt/cdrom, enter the following command:
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
2. To start the upgrade, enter the following command:
/path_to_dvd/VTS/upgrade-scripts/604-upgrade.sh
Note If this command fails, confirm that the media is in a DVD drive, not a CD-ROM
drive.
The upgrade script checks for third-party software, such as backup management
applications, that was installed on the system through the Red Hat Package Manager. It
verifies that /, /boot, and /VAULT00 are distinct, mounted, and properly labeled. Then,
the upgrade script verifies that enough space exists on /VAULT00 to store the backup
image; if space is not available, the upgrade exits and displays an error message noting
the amount of free space needed.
Here is an example of the output that lists several third-party applications:
