Virtual TapeServer 6.04.01 Operations and Administration Guide

Upgrading a GFS cluster
If GFS is used in your environment, you must upgrade all VTS servers at the same time so
that the same version of VTS software is installed on all servers in the environment. Then,
GFS must be upgraded. VTS servers in a cluster must run the same version of VTS software.
WARNING You cannot downgrade GFS after performing the following procedure. Once
upgraded, the only way to recover is by downgrading VTS and completely
rebuilding the GFS cluster and recovering the data from a backup stored on
media. (You cannot run the previous version of GFS with VTS 6.04 and the GFS
version provided with 6.04 cannot be used with VTS software previous to 6.04.)
Before beginning the upgrade, collect the following information from one VTS server, which is
referred to as the “GFS upgrade system”. Store the information on another system that is not
in the cluster or on a USB flash drive.
• Fully qualified domain name of each VTS server in the cluster
• Cluster name (alias); running the service ccsd restart command provides the cluster
name
• Information about the GFS clusters to be upgraded (pool names, paths such as
/dev/pool/pool_gfs01, and so on)
• /etc/hosts file
• /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file
Note You can configure Fibre Channel switch fencing if the external storage device is
connected over Fibre Channel (for example, if the HP StorageWorks Modular SAN
Array provides a built-in Fibre Channel switch). Or, you can configure HP Integrated
Lights-Out (iLO) to handle fencing. Refer to the following for more information about
fencing:
