Overview of Configuration Tasks
After completing the procedures provided in the Virtual TapeServer Quick Setup Guide, you
can continue the initial configuration of the VTS server. This guide provides those
configuration procedures. The following steps outline the a general tasks that you must
complete to configure Virtual TapeServer (VTS).
1. Validate or change the standard vault layout as described in Reconfiguring Vaults on
page 3.
2. Configure licensing for virtual tape drives (VTDs), SecureVTS, AutoCopy, and Instant DR
as described in
Configuring Licensing on page 7.
3. Create VTDs as described in Creating Virtual Tape Drives on page 9, which also includes
how to validate that the host server can connect to the VTD(s).
4. Configure access control to grant or limit access to specific VTS functions. See Configuring
Access Control on page 15.
5. Configure VTS to send EMS messages to the host server. Once configured, VTS can
process mount message requests, VTSPolicy commands, and Tandem Advanced
Command Language (TACL) heartbeat messages. VTS can send critical and error event
messages to the host server. Complete the procedures in
Configuring EMS
Communication on page 33 to configure this communication.
Note You must configure EMS if Instant DR or AutoCopy is licensed.
Then, use the procedures in the Virtual TapeServer Operations and Administration Guide to
maintain VTS.
