Virtual Network Computing remote control software
VNC software enables you to remotely access the console of a UNIX server. VNC must be
configured on the host server before you can use it from a client. You can download VNC from
http://www.vnc.com/.
HP health monitoring utilities
The VTS server provides the following:
HP Systems Insight Manager (HPSIM-Linux-C.05.02.02.00.bin)
HP System Health Application and the HP Insight Management Agents (hpasm-8.0.0-
173.rhel5.x86_64.rpm)
HP System Management Homepage (hpsmh-2.1.12-200.x86_64.rpm)
SNMP agent access to the HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management controller (hp-ilo-
8.1.0-104.rhel5.x86_64.rpm); note that this is not installed on the VT5900-K
These utilities can be used for managing HP systems to maximize system uptime and health.
The agent package integrates with HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM), Insight Manager
Console, HP Services Essential Remote Support Pack, and HP NonStop Cluster Essentials. It
monitors all serviceable system components (drives, fans, power supplies, and so on).
To use these utilities, you must configure them. Refer to http://h18013.www1.hp.com/
products/servers/management/hpsim/infolibrary.html for instructions. The relevant links
include “Install and configure”, “How to use”, “Advanced management features”, and “Man
pages”.
HP Integrated Lights-Out, Integrated Lights-Out 2, and Lights-Out 100
Models VT5900-H and VT5900-J support HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) and HP Integrated
Lights-Out 2. Model VT5900-K supports HP ProLiant Lights-Out 100. These remote control
services enable you to log in to the VTS server using the iLO virtual serial port or Mgmt port.
For information about using iLO, refer to http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/
SupportManual/c00263709/c00263709.pdf.
For information about using Lights-Out 100, refer to http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/
docs/support/SupportManual/c01325507/c01325507.pdf.
Note that if you are using a serial connection over the physical serial port (connected through
/dev/ttyS0), use the following connection settings:
Speed: 115200 bps
•Data Bits: 8
•Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
After iLO or Lights-Out 100 is configured, you can enable iLO or Lights-Out 100 access on the
system boot menu by running /usr/local/tape/bin/grub-serial.bash as root and then
rebooting the system. iLO or Lights-Out 100 access to the VTS server is available without
running this script, but you cannot access the boot menu to change boot parameters or select a
different kernel using iLO or Lights-Out 100.
