Message severity
The severity attribute indicates the potential impact of the event or condition that the
message reports.
Note Though you can change the debug level on the Set Debug Level page, the debug level
is reset to Error every time VTS is restarted.
The following table lists the severity levels for log messages, starting from the lowest level of
impact to the highest.
Message IDs
Each six-digit message ID is made up of the following:
• The first digit represents the severity ID (see Message severity on page 135)
• The second and third digits represent the subsystem ID
• The final three digits represent the event ID
The following provides a list of subsystem IDs:
Program None The name of the program that
generated the message. This field is
often omitted, such as when the web
interface generates the message.

Severity ID Severity Level Description
2 Info A normal operation.
4 Warning A suspicious operation or configuration that might not
affect normal operation.
6 Error A user error that the system or application can handle
with no interruption and limited degradation of service.
8 Critical A system or service error from which the system can
recover, although there might be a momentary loss or
permanent degradation of service.
