Virtual TapeServer 6.04.03 Operations and Administration Guide
80 | Using SecureVTS
Encrypting and decrypting virtual tapes
After SecureVTS is enabled and configured, you can encrypt virtual tapes. You can encrypt
virtual tapes individually or you can encrypt a pool, which instructs VTS to automatically
encrypt virtual tapes when they are added to the pool.
• If you encrypt a pool, all virtual tapes in the pool are encrypted when they are created.
• If virtual tapes exist in a pool before the pool is encrypted, you can choose whether to
encrypt the existing virtual tapes.
Also, you can decrypt virtual tapes after they are encrypted.
Encrypting a pool
You can configure a pool so that any tapes created in the pool are encrypted. If virtual tapes
exist in the pool when the pool is configured for encryption, you can specify whether they
should also be encrypted.
Note To encrypt a pool when it is created, see Creating a pool on page 51.
