Virtual TapeServer 6.04.04 for NonStop Servers Installation Guide

Overview of Configuration Tasks
After completing the procedures provided in the Virtual TapeServer Quick Start Guide, you
can continue the initial configuration of the Virtual TapeServer (VTS) server. This guide
provides those configuration procedures.
Note If you are upgrading to 6.04.04, refer to the Virtual TapeServer Release Notes for
upgrade instructions and considerations before completing the server configuration
outlined here.
The following steps outline the general tasks that you must complete to configure VTS. Many
of these procedures are now provided in the online help.
1. Validate or change the standard vault layout as described in Reconfiguring Vaults on
page 7.
2. Configure target and host ports, so that you can create virtual tape drives (VTDs). See
Configuring ports on page 11.
3. Configure licensing for virtual tape drives (VTDs), SecureVTS, AutoCopy, and Instant DR
as described in
Configuring licensing on page 12.
4. Create VTDs as described in Creating Virtual Tape Drives on page 15, which also includes
how to validate that the host server can connect to the VTD(s).
5. Configure access control to grant or limit access to specific VTS functions. See Configuring
Access Control on page 21.
6. Configure VTS to send EMS messages to the host server. Once configured, VTS can
process mount message requests, VTSPolicy commands, and Tandem Advanced
Command Language (TACL) heartbeat messages. VTS can send critical and error event
messages to the host server. Complete the procedures in
Configuring EMS
Communication on page 39 to configure this communication.
Note You must configure EMS if Instant DR or AutoCopy is licensed.
Then, use the procedures in the Virtual TapeServer Operations and Administration Guide to
maintain VTS.
