Importing physical tapes
VTS enables you to import a physical tape to a virtual tape. The import feature was designed
for occasional low-volume use and requires that a standalone tape drive or simple cartridge
autoloader is connected to VTS. You must ensure that the tape drive is available and that
appropriate tape media is installed before beginning an import operation.
Requires the Virtual Tape Import and Export, Vault Access, and Access to all Vaults
access rights
To import a physical tape
Note that you must select a virtual tape to which the data on the physical tape is imported. If
data exists on the selected virtual tape, it is overwritten when the data is imported.
1. Click Virtual Media on the navigation pane. The Virtual Media - Operation page is
displayed.
2. Select a pool in the pool column. Or, expand a pool and select a virtual tape in the
cartridge column. This is the location to which the data is imported.
