To downgrade VTS
1. Verify that at least 1GB of free disk space is available on the VTS server before
downgrading.
2. If possible, locate the system restore image that was created before the system was

will be downgrading. Store this image in a safe location.
3. If necessary, log in to the VTS web interface. Click the Log In button at the top of the
page and enter a username and password.
4. Click Supervisor Functions on the navigation pane.
5. Stop all VTS services by clicking the appropriate links in the Processes section of the
Supervisory Functions page.
6. On the Supervisory Functions page, click Revert Revision Update. A dialog box is
displayed indicating you are about to revert VTS to the previously installed version.
7. Click OK to continue. The server is downgraded.
8. Reboot the VTS server.
9. Launch the web interface and navigate to the System Status page to verify that the
version was uninstalled.
Upgrade and downgrade issues
• Incorrect failure message displayed if upgrade fails because of insufficient disk
space. If the upgrade fails because of disk space limitations, the following message is
displayed to indicate the current disk usage, which is insufficient for the upgrade to
continue. (TL-5136)
ERROR Could not create System Restore image before upgrade.

WORKAROUND: Remove all unnecessary files from the bill and root home directories,
files other than those starting with “sysbackup”, VTS upgrade files (VTS*.UPG), and any
directory in /tmp starting with vtsupg*.
Upgrade fails because TapeServer process could not be stopped. Processes can be
started intermittently by the web server (such as the System Status page) and cron jobs.
If one of these processes runs a server process from /usr/local/tape/bin during an upgrade,
the upgrade could fail. (TL-5007)
WORKAROUND: Attempt the upgrade again without restarting TapeServer.
Update process does not roll back changes after a failure. If there is a failure
during the installation of a patch or IR, an error is returned but the web interface does not
change the version information of the software. The server is left an unusable state.
(TL-4108)
WORKAROUND: Stop all processes from the Supervisory Functions page and attempt
the upgrade again.
