Virtual TapeServer 6.04.04 for NonStop Servers Release Notes

Resolved Issues and Enhancements | 11
General operations
Frequent errors caused VTD to become unresponsive. A 224 error indicates a
timeout on the Nonstop server when the VTD fails to respond to a new command. A 190 or
188 error may be seen on an existing command that fails to complete in time. In the case
of this issue, the server failed to keep contact with a VTS tape process, and the VTD
became unavailable and the NonStop server could communicate with it anymore. To
recover, TapeServer had to be restarted or VTS had to be rebooted. This specific condition
is fixed in this release. (TL-3628, EAR 6748)
Inquiry bits for SCSI bus width and sync were incorrect. In previous versions, the
bits for “bus width” and “sync” were not set correctly in the standard SCSI INQUIRY
response. These bits are now set to the correct values. (TL-4580)
HTTPS certificates used X509 version 1. HTTPS certificates generated by 6.04.03 (all
versions) used an X509 version 1 certificate. HTTPS certificates generated by 6.04.04 now
use X509 version 3. (TL-5147)
Cartridge size counts were incorrect causing files to not be exported or
migrated. Previously, if the host performed a backup and it read some of the information
just written before the backup completed, the host may have read only the last data
recorded in the data size part of the metadata. The data in the backup was fully intact but
the metadata, which some VTS tools uses, was not correct and may have caused these
files to be omitted from the list of files to be exported or migrated. This has been fixed.
(TL-4731, TL-4714, EAR 6614)
If an error occurred during the overwrite of a cartridge, it may have been left
unusable. Now, the cartridge can be overwritten successfully. (TL-4558, EAR 6550)
Erroneous export log entries were logged when importing 6.03.42 pool into
6.04.xx system. If a pool was exported from a 6.03.42 system and then imported into a
6.04.xx system, the export log may have reported 0 files and 0 bytes imported, even
though the actual import succeeded. This issue has been fixed. (TL-4624, EAR 6602)
Error generated by web server if host name did not match name in certificate.
When starting, the Apache web server may have generated an warning message about the
host name not matching the name stored in the secure server certificate. This has been
fixed. (TL-4847)
Native tape imports and exports used compressed data sizes to determine data
rates. Because all native tape data reads/writes first decompress the data before it is
transferred to/from the physical tape, the decompressed size is now used in rate
calculation. (TL-4836)
Native pool exports may have contained an indexing flaw that caused restoring
to fail. An exported pool with more than one cartridge could not be restored because the
exported cartridges contained blank lines. Now, the cartridges can be imported and the
blank lines are ignored. (TL-4865)
Process used at log-rotate times terminated running jobs. At log-rotate times, a
critical process required to schedule and run jobs is now being restarted cleanly. (TL-
4974)
Request to mount a tape read-write completed with the tape mounted read-only.
This has been fixed. (TL-5041, EAR 6789)
Poor performance when writing to an external storage arrays. The 6.04.01 release
made a change to issue a File Sync after a Write Filemark. Previously, the VTS software
allowed its operating system to write the VTS file system cache when it determined that it
was necessary. This change in 6.04.01 and 6.04.02 causes slow performance when writing
