Introduction | 1
Introduction
Virtual TapeServer (VTS) is a fully integrated virtual tape, hardware and software solution.
VTS offers complete disaster recovery capabilities. As a primary repository for data center
backups, VTS can be used as secondary tiered storage for replicated data to meet disaster
recovery requirements.
Overview of features
Release 6.04.05 introduces the following new features and support to VTS:
• P2000 support — P2000 MSAs are now supported as external disk storage arrays.
• “Friendly” name support for physical tape drives connected to VTS are now made
available in the Physical Drives section of the Manage Settings page (Supervisor
Functions > Edit System Settings). Each physical device can be given a friendly name
(should not be blank), which will be presented to the user when selecting a destination for
native exports. The default value of the “friendly name” is the vendor and model of the
device. You may edit it to be more descriptive for your environment (such as “HP
MSL6000 Series” can be made “MSL6k in rack 6”).
• LTO5 for support of native export — You can now export to an LTO5 drive.
• Security enhancement to remove Firefox browser from server — Mozilla Firefox is no
longer available on VTS systems.
• EMS monitor function added that will restart the EMS service if host communication is
lost — To enable this feature, set the Enable Keep Alive and Keep Alive Interval options
on the EMS Configuration page.
