Installation and Configuration
This section describes how to access information about installing and configuring the release
6.04.05 of VTS. It also provides compatibility notes.
Installation, upgrade, update, and downgrade
The following documentation provides information about installing, upgrading, updating, and
downgrading VTS:
Initial installation and configuration is described in the Virtual TapeServer Quick Start
Guide.
Instructions to upgrade and install interim releases are described in Upgrade and
Downgrade on page 4.
It is highly recommended that you back up your system(s) after deployment in your
environment or after major operations are performed, such as an upgrade. See the backup
procedure in the Virtual TapeServer Configuration Guide, which also provides complete
configuration information.
Compatibility
This section describes interoperability of VTS with host servers, backup management
applications, and browsers. For a complete list of hardware and application compatibility, see
the HP Virtual TapeServer Compatibility Matrix.
Host server support
The following host servers are supported:
HP NonStop G-series and S-series
HP Integrity NonStop H-series and NS-series
HP NonStop BladeSystems (J-series)
IBM AIX 5.3 on CHRP hardware, and AIX 5.3 and 6.1 on Power6
Windows Server 2003 and 2008
However, the following host servers were tested for use with VTS.
HP Integrity NonStop NS1000 Server, H06.20.00 (Fibre Channel)
HP NonStop S7000, SCSI only
IBM AIX 6.1 and 5.3 on Power6 systems running native backup commands and Tivoli
Storage Manager over Fibre Channel; note that only the 3580-TD1 virtual drive is
supported with Tivoli Storage Manager
Tape drive emulation
VTS allows multiple hosts to perform up to 16 simultaneous backups per VTS server. Up to
one virtual tape drive (VTD) is supported per SCSI bus, up to four VTDs are supported per
Fibre Channel port, and up to 32 VTDs are supported per VTS server.
