Virtual TapeServer 8.0 Release Notes

Known Issues | 32
Pool is restored to a cartridge resulting in data not being stored as expected. If
an exported pool is restored to a cartridge, the data will not be restored as separate
cartridges but will be stored as regular data on one cartridge. (TL-1041)
WORKAROUND: Restore pools to pools, not cartridges.
Importing a pool into a different pool can create duplicate cartridges. When a
pool is imported, the cartridges are created. If the pool that is being used to import the
pool already has cartridges of the same name as the imported ones, duplication of
cartridges will result. This could cause other pools to disappear, cartridges to display
incorrectly or not appear. (TL-1039)
WORKAROUND: Review cartridges restored in this manner when there might be
conflicts with existing cartridges. You can rename the cartridges from the command line
(log in as the bill user) or delete duplicate cartridges.
Virtual tape names must be unique. If virtual tape names are not unique, unexpected
results can occur in the VTS interface. For example, an error message might be displayed
after attempting to mount one of the tapes whose name is not unique. (TL-199, TL-219)
Exporting a pool using a 5190 tape drive fails. The following error message is
generated. (TL-4073)
Fri 2010-01-08 13:26:35: V01POOL:* /usr/bin/star -c f=/dev/nst0 C=/

Removing virtual tape from VTL does not give a process indicator or success or
failure message. No process indicator is displayed and no failure message is generated if
a virtual tape cannot be removed from the VTL. (TL-4325)
Last Mounted time incorrect for new cartridges on Manage Virtual Tapes page.
The Last Mounted time is the same as the creation time for new cartridges that have
never been mounted. (TL-4859)
Data size incorrect on Manage Virtual Tapes page after data change during a
stacked export. Data sizes may vary between the Configure Tapes and Pools page and
the Manage Virtual Tapes page if a stacked export is being performed and then new data
is written to the cartridge while the stacked export is in progress. (TL-4953)
WORKAROUND: For accurate cartridge size information, view cartridge information
using the pop-up dialog box on the Manage Virtual Tapes or Configure Tapes and Pools
page.
Long pool name obscures vault and location columns on Manage Virtual Tapes
page. A pool with a long name obscures the data in the Vault and Location columns.
(TL-4779)
Misleading error message displayed when inserting a cartridge into a disabled
VTL. The error message indicates “1 cartridge failed. /VAULT04/6dVTLPool/6DV000 =>
Error encountered attempting to open file: /VAULT04/6dVTLPool/6DV000 “. Instead, it
should indicate that the VTL is disabled. (TL-5023)
