Virtual TapeServer 8.0 Release Notes
Introduction | 2
• Role swap and Remote Export job — Role swapping is now available and provided
through the use of Remote Export jobs. See the documentation for full details.
• Export and Import can now be performed on standalone drives — The drives can be
configured on the System Settings page. The export/import operations are carried out as
jobs and are allowed to be canceled allowing full control to the user. See the online help for
details.
• Email notifications — When replicate or native export to a library jobs complete, an email
message with the job status is sent to the list of addresses specified on the System
Settings page.
• AIX 7.1 host support — Backups from AIX 7.1 hosts are now supported to FC and SCSI
devices. See
Backup management application support on page 8 for supported BMAs.
• RedHat Linux 5.5 host support — Backups from RedHat Linux 5.5 are now supported to
Fibre Channel and SCSI virtual devices. See
Backup management application support on
page 8 for supported BMAs.
• Capacity licensing — A capacity license must be purchased with newly manufactured
systems and an existing VTD license can be upgraded to a capacity license for existing
systems. VTLs and VTDs can be created until capacity is reached.
• Capacity notifications to EMS — EMS messages are now generated when capacity is
almost full.
• Improved web interface — The web interface has been improved to include updated
navigation and an improved System Status page. The Supervisor Functions page has
been split into several individual pages. These pages are further categorized under
Administration, Configuration, and Support to streamline the navigation. In addition,
these pages have been added:
• External Data page — A new page called Manage External Data is now provided that
lists information and allows importing of virtual tapes that were exported to an
external tape library or, if Replication is licensed, virtual tapes that were replicated to
a remote VTS server.
• Hosted Data page — A new page called Manage Hosted Data is now available if the
local host is configured as a replication target for another VTS server. This page lists
data files from VTS servers that were replicated to this server and allows the data
files to be replicated to another VTS system or export to tape through stacked export,
or exported to tape through native export.
• Monitoring MSA2000 and P2000 storage arrays — You can now monitor these storage
arrays using HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM). To do so, you must install and configure
SIM on a system other than VTS.
• VT5900-O (DL185G5) model — This new platform is distinguished from any other
DL185G5 platform by the presence of a 4x4Gb Qlogic FC HBA during installation. See the
Quick Start Guide for full details.
• VT5900-P (DL380G6) model — This new platform is distinguished from any other
DL380G6 platform by the presence of an internal PCI-e riser instead of a PCI-X riser.
This new platform is to replace the VT5900-L and is distinguished from the VT5900-N by
addition of a LSI SAS 1068e HBA.
