Installation and Configuration
This section describes how to access information about installing and configuring release 8.0
of VTS. It also provides compatibility notes.
Installation, upgrade, update, and downgrade
The following documentation provides information about installing, upgrading, updating, and
downgrading VTS:
Initial installation and configuration is described in the Virtual TapeServerQuick Start
Guide.
Instructions to upgrade from 6.04.03, 6.04.04, or 6.04.05 to 8.0 are included in Upgrade
and Downgrade on page 9, which also includes known upgrade and downgrade issues.
Compatibility
This section describes interoperability of VTS with host servers, backup management
applications, and browsers. For a complete list of hardware and application compatibility, see
the HP Virtual TapeServer Compatibility Matrix.
Host server support
The following host servers are supported:
HP NonStop G-series and S-series
HP Integrity NonStop H-series and NS-series
HP NonStop BladeSystems (J-series)
IBM iSeries (AS/400) servers running IBM i5/OS® v5r4 and IBM® i 6.1
IBM Power System servers running i5/OS v5r4, IBM i 6.1 and 7.1
IBM AIX 5.3 on CHRP hardware, and AIX 5.3, 6.1, and 7 on Power6
Note SCSI VTLs for AIX are supported, though you must contact Support for setup
information.
Windows Server 2003 and 2008 (for VTLs emulating MSL6000s)
RedHat Linux 5.5
However, the following host servers were tested for use with VTS.
HP Integrity NonStop NS1000 Server, H06.20.00 (Fibre Channel)
HP NonStop S7000, SCSI only
IBM iSeries (AS/400) 9406-820 running native backup commands, IBM Backup Recovery
and Media Services (BRMS), and Robot/Save
IBM AIX 7.1, 6.1, and 5.3 on Power6 systems running native backup commands and
Tivoli Storage Manager over Fibre Channel; note that only the 3580-TD1 virtual drive is
supported with Tivoli Storage Manager
