92 | Enabling and Configuring Scan/Cleanup
You can force an erasure or block an erasure by using the checkboxes on the Scan/Cleanup
page. However, when an erase process completes (either auto-erase or erase-now), these
overrides are removed.
When Scan/Cleanup erases a virtual tape, the header information (metadata) remains
stored on VTS.
Scan/Cleanup does not affect a virtual tape's encryption setting.
This chapter describes how to enable and configure Scan/Cleanup.
You must modify the VTS configuration file to enable Scan/Cleanup and configure some of the
business rules.

A default configuration file is defined for each VTS server. To override the default
settings, you must define settings as described below.
1. Click ConfigurationSystem on the navigation pane.
2. Click Edit Configuration File.
3. Add the following parameters at the bottom of the file that is displayed:

menu_ScanCleanup Displays the scan/cleanup menu option on
the Configure Tapes and Pools page. This
menu option enables you to access the Scan/
Cleanup web interface.
Default value: NO
YES or NO
cleanup_enable Enables Scan/Cleanup. When disabled, the
Scan/Cleanup page indicates that this
feature is disabled.
Default value: NO
You must also set cleanup_autoerase to
YES to enable automated Scan/Cleanup.
