Virtual Network Computing remote control software
VNC software enables you to remotely access the console of a UNIX server. VNC must be
configured on the host server before you can use it from a client. You can download VNC from
http://www.vnc.com/.
HP health monitoring utilities
The VTS server provides the following:
HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM_6.2_575369_004.bin)
HP Insight Diagnostics (hpdiags-8.7.0-26.linux.x86_64.rpm)
HP System Health Application and Command Line Utilities (hp-health-8.7.0.22-
11.rhel5.x86_64.rpm)
HP iLO Channel Interface Driver (hp-ilo-8.5.0-1.rhel5.x86_64.rpm); note that this is not
installed on the VT5900-K
HP System Management Homepage (hpsmh-6.3.0-22.x86_64.rpm)
HP System Management Homepage Templates (hp-smh-templates-8.7.0.10-
10.noarch.rpm)
Insight Management Agents (SNMP) for HP ProLiant Systems (hp-snmp-agents-8.7.0.23-
17.rhel5.x86_64.rpm)
HP Version Control Agent for Linux (hpvca-6.3.0-8.linux.rpm)
These utilities can be used for managing HP systems to maximize system uptime and health.
The agent package integrates with HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM), Insight Manager
Console, HP Services Essential Remote Support Pack, and HP NonStop Cluster Essentials. It
monitors all serviceable system components (drives, fans, power supplies, and so on).
To use these utilities, you must configure them. Refer to http://h18013.www1.hp.com/
products/servers/management/hpsim/infolibrary.html for instructions. The relevant links
include “Install and configure”, “How to use”, “Advanced management features”, and “Man
pages”.
Note To monitor MSA2000 and P2000 storage arrays using HP SIM, you must install and
configure SIM on a system other than VTS.
Then, after installing HP SIM, SNMP must be enabled to use HP Insight Manager; SNMP is
disabled by default for security reasons. As the root user, enter this command:
chkconfig snmpd on
HP Integrated Lights-Out, Integrated Lights-Out 2, Integrated Lights-
Out Advanced Pack, and Lights-Out 100
Models VT5900-H and VT5900-L support HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO), HP Integrated
Lights-Out 2, and HP Integrated Lights-Out Advanced Pack, which are collectively referred
to here at “iLO”. Model VT5900-K supports HP ProLiant Lights-Out 100. These remote
control services enable you to log in to the VTS server using the iLO virtual serial port or
Mgmt port.
